Annapurna Circuit with Tilicho Lake Trek – 15 Days

Your adventure begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu or Pokhara to Chame, the administrative center of Manang District. The journey follows the Prithvi Highway before entering the Marsyangdi Valley through Besisahar and Dharapani. Along the way, enjoy views of terraced hillsides, rushing rivers, waterfalls, and traditional mountain villages. As the road climbs higher into the Himalayas, the landscape gradually transforms from subtropical forests to pine-covered mountain slopes. After breakfast, begin trekking through beautiful pine and fir forests alongside the Marsyangdi River. The trail passes through small settlements such as Bhratang, known for its apple orchards, before crossing several suspension bridges and ascending gradually toward Pisang. As you gain elevation, magnificent views of Annapurna II, Annapurna IV, and Pisang Peak begin to dominate the skyline. Instead of staying in Lower Pisang, continue to the quieter and more scenic Upper Pisang, a traditional village with ancient stone houses and spectacular mountain panoramas. Today's trek follows the famous high route, which offers superior acclimatization and some of the best views on the Annapurna Circuit. A steep morning climb leads to the picturesque village of Ghyaru, where prayer flags flutter against a backdrop of towering Himalayan peaks. The trail then traverses high above the valley, providing uninterrupted views of Annapurna II, Annapurna III, Annapurna IV, Gangapurna, Tilicho Peak, and Pisang Peak. The trail continues gently across alpine landscapes toward Manang. Along the way, pass through the ancient village of Braga, famous for its centuries-old monastery perched on a hillside overlooking the valley. Those interested can visit Braga Monastery to admire Buddhist murals, statues, and historical artifacts. The route then descends slightly into the broad Manang Valley, where dramatic views of Gangapurna Glacier and Annapurna III dominate the horizon. Acclimatization is essential before ascending further into the high Himalayas. Rather than resting completely, spend the day on an active acclimatization hike. Popular options include a hike to Gangapurna Lake, a glacial lake offering spectacular reflections of surrounding peaks, or the more challenging excursion to Ice Lake at approximately 4,600m. These hikes provide excellent opportunities to gain elevation and improve acclimatization while enjoying breathtaking views of Annapurna III, Gangapurna, Chulu Peaks, and the surrounding glaciers. Return to Manang for a second overnight stay.

Leaving the main Annapurna Circuit trail, head toward the remote Tilicho Valley. The route passes through Khangsar Village, one of the last permanent settlements before Tilicho Lake. Continuing through Shree Kharka, the trail traverses rugged terrain beneath towering cliffs and crosses several landslide-prone sections that require careful footing. Despite the challenging landscape, the scenery is extraordinary, with dramatic rock formations and views of Tilicho Peak and surrounding mountains. An early morning departure is necessary to avoid strong afternoon winds and changing weather conditions. The steep ascent to Tilicho Lake rewards trekkers with one of the most remarkable sights in the Himalayas. Surrounded by snow-covered peaks and towering cliffs, Tilicho Lake is considered one of the highest glacial lakes in the world. Spend time enjoying the serene atmosphere and taking photographs before descending back to Tilicho Base Camp. Today you reconnect with the main Annapurna Circuit route. The trail gradually traverses alpine meadows, grazing areas, and rugged mountain slopes where yaks and blue sheep are commonly seen. The landscape becomes increasingly barren as vegetation thins with elevation. The walk is relatively moderate, allowing your body additional time to adapt before reaching the higher camps. Arrive at Yak Kharka in the afternoon and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding Himalayan giants. Overnight in Yak Kharka.

The trek continues steadily upward through a dry, windswept environment toward Thorong Phedi, the final stopping point before crossing Thorong La Pass. Depending on your fitness level and weather conditions, you may choose to continue another hour to High Camp. Although the climb to High Camp is steep, it shortens the following day's ascent to the pass. Spend the afternoon resting, hydrating, and preparing for the most demanding day of the trek. This is the highlight of the entire journey. Starting before dawn, ascend gradually toward Thorong La Pass, one of the highest trekking passes in the world. As the sun rises, the surrounding peaks glow in golden light, creating an unforgettable Himalayan panorama. Upon reaching the prayer-flag-covered summit, enjoy magnificent views stretching across the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. After celebrating your achievement, begin the long descent toward Muktinath. The landscape changes dramatically, transitioning from alpine wilderness to the arid terrain of Mustang. Leaving the high mountains behind, travel by jeep or local vehicle through Jomsom, Marpha, Ghasa, and the spectacular Kali Gandaki Gorge, the deepest gorge in the world. Marpha is particularly famous for its apple orchards, traditional architecture, and local apple products. As you descend, the climate becomes noticeably warmer and greener. Upon arrival in Tatopani, relax in the natural hot springs, which provide welcome relief for tired muscles after days of trekking. Overnight in Tatopani.

After a relaxing evening in Tatopani, begin climbing through terraced farmland and charming mountain villages. The trail passes through subtropical forests, cultivated fields, and traditional Magar settlements. Throughout the day, enjoy beautiful views of Dhaulagiri and the surrounding hills. The gradual return to greener landscapes offers a refreshing contrast to the high-altitude terrain crossed earlier in the trek. Arrive in the peaceful village of Shikha for an overnight stay.

Today's route enters one of the most beautiful forest sections of the Annapurna region. Trek through dense rhododendron and oak forests that are particularly spectacular during spring when the flowers are in bloom. The trail steadily ascends through traditional villages and forested ridges before reaching Ghorepani, a popular mountain settlement situated on a scenic ridge. Weather permitting, enjoy sunset views of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South, Nilgiri, and other surrounding peaks. Overnight in Ghorepani.

Before dawn, hike to Poon Hill, one of Nepal's most famous viewpoints. As the first rays of sunlight illuminate the snow-capped peaks, witness a breathtaking panorama including Dhaulagiri, Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Machhapuchhre, Nilgiri, and many other Himalayan summits. After enjoying the sunrise, return to Ghorepani for breakfast and begin descending through forests and villages toward Ulleri or Banthanti. From there, drive to Pokhara, where comfortable hotels, lakeside restaurants, and modern amenities await. Overnight in Pokhara.

This flexible day serves as a contingency in case of delays caused by weather, transportation, or acclimatization needs. If unused, it can be spent exploring Pokhara's attractions, including Phewa Lake, Davis Falls, the World Peace Pagoda, and local markets. Depending on your onward travel plans, either fly or drive back to Kathmandu or continue your journey elsewhere in Nepal.
